Dainese’s new pads show that they know a thing or two about protecting our fragile bodies while we throw ourselves down mountains.

Both the top and bottom elasticated openings get a small Velcro tab to cinch them up just right, but it’s the diagonal strap that starts just above the calf muscle that really helps to lock the pad securely in place.
Security is helped further by articulation, with the uppermost hardshell pad able to slide in and out under the main knee cup. Sizing is really important here, so we’d suggest trying before buying if at all possible.

Though there’s a substantial amount of padding here — as well as the hardshell knee cup and upper shin, there’s foam on the outside of the knee too – the Armoforms are some of the most breathable heavy-duty pads we’ve tried, even on particularly clammy days.
Although the bulk and coverage might suggest they’re better suited to DH duties, we’ve pedalled in them all day with no discomfort or readjustment required, thanks in part to how well they move with the knee. When we did take a spill, the Armoforms stayed put and protected our knees admirably.
