Hands on: Garmin ViRB Ultra 30 action camera review

http://ift.tt/2bStopB

There's a new top-end action camera from Garmin, and it has 4K video at 30 frames per second. What's more, the Garmin ViRB Ultra 30 has a touch screen, voice control ("Remember that!"), a faster GPS chip and live broadcasting.

We spotted it at the Eurobike show just hours before it was announced, and managed to have a quick play with it. So let's start with how it looks. It's definitely less rugged looking than the older ViRB cameras, which are reminiscent of the Fenix 3 action watches.

By comparison, the new Garmin ViRB Ultra 30 action camera is much more vulnerable looking, similar to a GoPro Hero 4 Silver. But don't worry, it comes with two cases for protection. There's a waterproof case (depth rating TBC), as well as a lighter weight case for mounting it to your helmet, handlebars or saddle.

Garmin ViRB Ultra 30: design

The new ViRB keeps the physical recording switch that our video team love – there's no way of mistaking whether you've switched it on or not. Also along the top are two buttons for switching the camera on/off, and for toggling WiFi on or off. There's now a removable battery, so you can store spares in your jersey pocket to keep on recording, along with a micro SD card slot.
