We’ve got wind of yet another great-value road bike coming from SpeedX, called the Unicorn. It’s being positioned as an endurance road bike, so lighter and less racy than the SpeedX Leopard aero model which we’ve already seen.
No mythical beast, the SpeedX Unicorn will be available for worldwide pre-order from October 2016, and first deliveries will begin in December 2016 or early 2017.
- SpeedX Leopard: an entry-level aero road bike that seems too good to be true
- Best road bike – how to choose the right one for you
- Best road bike under £2,000
Pricing is not yet available, but we expect it to be great value considering that the SpeedX Leopard promises a carbon frameset, integrated computer and Shimano 105 groupset for around £1,000 / US$1,399 / €1,399. We expect the Unicorn to come in at a similar price point.
SpeedX Unicorn: spec and key features
So what’s different about the Unicorn? Well the frame is claimed to weigh just 780g, making it one of the lightest frames in the world. It gets an integrated power meter (ANT+ and Bluetooth support), to help riders train and track their progress in real time. SpeedX says its power meter has been tested against the SRM Power Meter, and delivers 97% accuracy against that model.
Going by the photos already released on its website, it looks like this new model will keep the hidden aero rim brakes and integrated rear LED light from the SpeedX Leopard.
