4iiii has announced today that it's bringing power meters to the trails by fitting the brand's proven Precision Pro, dual-sided power meter to Shimano XT and XTR cranksets.

Originally only found on Dura-Ace road cranks, 4iiii (no relation to 3T, 2XU, etc) claims that it has refined the original design to better withstand the punishing environment of mountain biking.
4iiii is offering the power meter on Shimano XTR M9000/9020 and XT M8000 cranksets, and will retrofit the 18g unit to your existing cranks for a charge.

The Precision Pro power meter will be available from October, and to retrofit it to your cranks it is set to cost US$749.99. 4iiii hasn’t released UK or Australian pricing yet, but given the road equivalent costs the same, we think it’s safe to assume it will be similar (£577.99, AU$992.99).
Power meters are gaining traction in the MTB world, particularly in XC racing where efforts can be more easily monitored and training regimes tweaked to suit individual riders, so will we see a move towards power meters being fitted as stock items on mountain bikes in the future as we’re seeing with road bikes?
