Richie Porte will not turn a pedal in anger for the BMC Racing Team until the Australian nationals and the Tour Down Under in January but that hasn’t stopped the Tour de France contender from jumping on his new BMC Teammachine SLR01 during the training camp in Spain.
On Thursday, the team confirmed it had secured sponsorship from BMC beyond 2016 and said Porte would target the Tour de France alongside Tejay van Garderen.
Riders and teams are not usually allowed to reveal their new bikes until the new season but Porte’s previous squad, Team Sky, have allowed Cyclingnews to post images of the Australian’s race bike for 2016.

Porte is currently in Spain, training with his new teammates including Tejay van Garderen, Philippe Gilbert and Rohan Dennis. Porte will ride a 48cm frame, while he will be used to the BMC component set-up having used Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 and Shimano C50 wheels at Team Sky.
He will also be using the same saddle next year, having ridden with a fi'zi:k Arione carbon braided model on a Pinarello Dogma2 65.1 Think2 in 2015. He will also have Elite carbon bottle cages. However, the stem and cockpit is new; he will use a 3T model at BMC after using a PRO PLT at Team Sky.
We’ll have a full and closer look at Porte’s new bike in the coming weeks.
