Polaris Women's 3/4 Contour Tights

Three-quarter length tights are great for the transitional seasons, providing additional coverage for the thighs and knees when the weather is cooler. The Women's 3/4 Contour Tights from British brand Polaris provide good fit at an accessible price.

  • Highs: Decent fit, good value, competent chamois
  • Lows: Fabric could be more supportive and insulative
  • Buy if: Your primary consideration is low cost

We were happy with the overall fit of the Polaris Women's 3/4 Contour Tights. The tights feature a high waist that sits above the hips, keeping the lower back covered when riding on the drops. A softer panel of layered crossover elastane sits comfortably against the stomach. Although it rolls down slightly when leaning forward, it prevents the band cutting in at the front.

The tights themselves are constructed from a single layer of elastane in a panelled construction. Although providing good coverage and fit, the Lycra bagged a little around the knees and lower legs, and is lightweight without significant compressive qualities. Aesthetically, the matt finish and subtle reflective detailing make these a versatile pair of tights, but they don't provide a huge amount of insulation.

The leg hem is sturdy enough to keep the leggings in place on the calf, and a silicone strip prevents the hem riding up while riding. On the downside, the hem is less elastic than the body of the tights and does squeeze the calf causing a little leg squidge.

Narrow and of medium thickness, the Coolmax chamois pad on the Polaris 3/4 Contour Tights is comfortable for short to medium length rides. At first touch, the chamois fabric felt a little rough but was fine in practice, and wicked sweat away rapidly. We did find the pad sat quite far back, which may make it more suitable for those riding in a more upright position.
