LottoNL-Jumbo's Juan Jose Lobato proved quickest to the line at the end of stage 1 at the Tour de l'Ain, besting Cofidis' Nacer Bouhanni and Armee de Terre's Steven Tronee on Wednesday.
The 141.1-kilometre stage from Polliat to Trévoux featured a lumpy finale, but things came together for a sprint, with Lobato finally nabbing an elusive first pro victory in LottoNL-Jumbo kit in the uphill kick.
Adding the stage winner's bonus seconds to a strong fifth-place finish in the opening prologue, Lobato grabbed hold of the race lead from FDJ's Johan Le Bon, who now sits second overall on the same time as Bouhanni in third, six seconds back.
