FDJ's Johan Le Bon claimed the opening day of racing at the Tour de l'Ain, a 3.8-kilometre prologue in Bourg-en-Bresse.
The 26-year-old Frenchman spent nearly an hour in the hot seat after taking over the provisional lead midway through the start order, with most of the potential challengers still to come as he rolled across the line. His time of 4:32 withstood the rest of the field, however, with AG2R's Alexandre Geniez and Cofidis' Anthony Turgis coming closest to his mark, both of them two seconds slower.
Le Bon will now take the race leader's jersey into Wednesday's stage 1, a 141.1km ride from Polliat to Trévoux.
