Mikel Landa (Sky) won stage 1 of the Vuelta a Burgos in Alto del Castillo after he was part of a four-man break that escaped inside the final 10 kilometres.
The Basque was joined by Matteo Trentin (Quick-Step Floors), Sergei Chernetski (Astana) and Lasse Norman Hansen (Aqua Blue Sport) in the move. They carried a lead of 9 seconds into the final kilometre, and they held on to fight it out the stage honours.

Landa will carry the race lead into Wednesday’s second stage.
