Andriy Grivko pulled off an upset on stage 3 of La Méditerranéenne, snatching the race lead from FDJ's Matthieu Ladagnous with an attack on a late descent and a powerful performance on the finishing climb.

Grivko came to the line 18 seconds ahead of Ladagnous to take the lead by that margin, with AG2R La Mondiale riders Jan Bakelants and Mikael Cherel moving up to third and fourth, respectively.

“It has been a very tough stage, with the first 80 km with the rain and the race speed so high," Grivko said. "The Astana Pro Team did perfect work in supporting me and I have to thank all my teammates one by one."
