Prototypes of the FSA electronic road group have surfaced at the Tour de France on a select few bikes of Tinkoff-Saxo and Etixx-QuickStep. FSA has been working on a road groupset for years — announcing back in 2008 its intention for an 11-speed group by 2010 — but a full group has not yet made its way into production.
FSA is not talking about this electronic group, but we can glean some information by looking at the parts. For starters, there are wires running to the derailleurs, but there do not appear to be wires running from the shifters, suggesting a wireless transmission. The derailleur wires most likely lead to an internal battery, or they could be faux wires like SRAM used on its wireless group when early prototypes appeared at races.
The shifters appear to have two buttons on each lever, more similar to Shimano's current Di2 levers than SRAM's prototypes.
Do you see any shifter wires? We don't
FSA already has a range of road cranksets, brakes and chains as well as a full time trial transmission under its Vision sub-brand.
