American Taylor Phinney (BMC Racing) will be racing in pursuit of his third time trial national title Friday in North Carolina aboard a BMC TimeMachine TM01.
Phinney's machine features some monster gearing (56/44, anyone?), label-free wheels (a Lightweight disc and a HED tri spoke) and sticky tape on the tri/tt Fizik Tritone saddle.
Speaking of the saddle, BMC mechanic Ian Sherburne said Phinney is constantly fiddling with his seat height.
"Just a mil here or a mil there, but he is always messing with it," Sherburne said. "He is one of those riders that often riders with a hex key in his jersey pocket."
Fizik now provides teams with two options of grippy saddle covers so they don't have to resort to grip tape for time trials
