Just launched on Kickstarter, the FAST light is a Bluetooth enabled LED tail light that can change colours, detect crashes and act as an anti-theft device. Aiming to raise US$20,000, the smart light should begin shipping in November if successfully funded.
The 30-lumen smart tail light’s flashing patterns, and the colours emitted through its RGB LED’s are customisable through a smartphone app — available on Android and IOS. While the option to change the flashing pattern is sure to get attention, in some countries the law dictates a tail light must be red, so this feature may cause more trouble than it solves.
Like the ICEdot and Skylock, if the FAST light’s internal motion sensors and accelerometers detect and impact, the light will send a notification to a pre-nominated emergency contact; though there’s no mention of whether a notification or countdown is triggered on the rider’s phone to prevent false alarms.
The FAST light app controls all the lights functions
The FAST light app also features an anti-theft mode, similar to the Fly12. If the bike is ‘locked’ through the app and then detects movement, an alert is sent to the Bluetooth connected device (connected device must be within range).
