Scott launches redesigned Addict CX carbon cyclocross bike for 2016

Scott today pulled the curtains back on a wholly redesigned Addict CX carbon cyclocross racer. Despite the addition of thru-axles and disc brakes front and rear, claimed frame weight has dropped to an astonishing 890g for a medium size. Scott says the new Addict CX is also stiffer down below and more comfortable up top. Now let’s just hope it gets here in time for 'cross season.

  • 890g/360g claimed frame/fork weight (medium)

  • 61.5 percent claimed improvement in comfort

  • 24 percent claimed increased bottom bracket stiffness

  • 32 percent claimed increased head tube stiffness

  • 100x12mm front, 142x12mm rear thru-axles

  • Front and rear disc brakes (140 or 160mm rotors, post mount or Shimano flat mount)

  • Optional lightweight single-ring chain guide

  • 1 1/8-to-1 1/2in tapered head tube with integrated bearings

  • PF86 bottom bracket

  • Convertible cable routing

  • August availability

The current Scott Addict CX is no slouch come race day but Scott says it wanted to widen the bike’s appeal while also making it faster, too.

New tube shapes, hollow carbon dropouts, and a refined layup schedule have supposedly dropped 60g from the original, bringing the claimed weight down to just 890g for a medium size (plus 360g for the all-new matching fork). Meanwhile, a partially flattened top tube, offset seatstays, and a slimmed-down 27.2mm seatpost are said to boost rider comfort by more than 60 percent (based on deflection at the saddle under load). Scott also claims concurrent gains in head tube and drivetrain stiffness thanks to the newly tapered 1 1/8-to-1 1/2in front end and new PF86 bottom bracket shell, which not only allows for a much bigger down tube but also spreads the chainstays far enough apart that they no longer need to be pinched down for tyre clearance.

The new bike is supposedly not only stiffer and lighter but more comfortable, too

Naturally, Scott has graced its latest carbon 'cross racer with front and rear disc brakes and thru-axles at both ends. Riders will be able to use either 140mm or 160mm-diameter rotors, as well as either Shimano’s upcoming Flat Mount brake calipers or current post mount ones with an adapter. The rear end uses the conventional 142x12mm axle dimensions while the front goes with the new 100x12mm standard.
