Which is the best city in the UK to be a cyclist? It’s the sort of question you’d ask your mate while sipping on golden nectar, but is one we’ve put through our journalistic filter in this issue’s Urban Cyclist.

By trawling through government reports, speaking to people on the ground and racking up hundreds of cycling miles from Cornwall to Edinburgh, our man Rob Kemp’s answered the questions that demand to be answered.

Which city is most proficient at filling in potholes? Which part of the UK’s constructed the best cycling network? And what about repairing your pride-and-joy? We name the cities that are positively saturated with shops and mechanics. Along the way, we’ve also discovered the areas of the country where cycling neglect is endemic. It makes fascinating reading for all abilities and genre of cyclists.

As are many of the game-changing bikes from Charge. Charge has stripped bike construction and marketing right back to the essentials, and in less than a decade has become one of the most popular urban brands on the planet. We head to Somerset to unearth the secrets of its success.
