It’s been six months in the making, but after riding over 60 road bikes, and reviewing and rating 55 of them in this issue, the time has come to declare the Cannondale CAAD12 105 as our 2016 Bike Of The Year. It's the result of the biggest bike test we’ve ever done, and naming a winner gets tougher every year as the number of great road bikes increases. Read about all the contenders, the category winners, and our 2016 Bike Of The Year in our May issue.
Elsewhere we take the latest Marin gravel bike onto the unmade backroads of the French Alps to see just how much it can handle, get our year underway old-school style at a reliability ride in Scotland to ask if the traditional season opener still has a place in the world of the sportive.
We also get excited ahead of the 100th Tour of Flanders by looking back at some of our favourite editions of arguably cycling’s best one-day classic, while Team Cycling Plus hits the sports testing lab with Perform at the National Football Centre in Burton to find out just where they stand at the start of their road to the Prudential RideLondon Surrey 100… and just how much work the have to do!
With a spate of positives at the end of last year, we also lift the covers to look at just how deep the doping culture goes in amateur cycling, run the rule over the latest spring cycling kit to keep you warm and dry (or even cool!) whatever the weather and test 16 sets of affordable wheels that could help you get more speed and comfort for minimal outlay.
Plus we look at new bikes from Boardman, Focus, Avanti, Norco and more, as the European season hits full gas, Ned Boulting holds court on the worth, or otherwise, of the late winter racing in Dubai.
