Kristin Armstrong (Twenty 16 p/b Sho-Air) won the opening stage at the inaugural Women's USA Pro Challenge on Friday. The former two-time world champion and double Olympic gold medallist covered the 14km course in 21:24, a fraction faster than her teammate and runner-up Allie Dragoo. Amanda Miller (Visit Dallas p/b Noise4Good) was third, 24 seconds back.

Armstrong will wear the leader's jersey into stage 2 on Saturday. The women will race 93km from Loveland to Fort Collins.

The parcour was flat through the beginning sections of the circuit but included tests over the Moonstone Rd. climb and the descent on Boreas Pass back into Breckenridge.

Lauren Hall (Twenty16 p/b Sho-Air) set an early quick time of 23:04, and not too far of was British sprinter Hannah Barnes (UnitedHealthcare) in 23:27. It was Hall’s teammate Lauren Komanski who took the hot seat next, crossing the finish line in 22:29.

Komanski only held the top spot for a brief few minutes as UnitedHealthcare’s Abby Mickey finished with a blistering fast time of 21:52. However, her time was surpassed by Amanda Miller’s 21:48, and then by both Dragoo and Armstrong, who both finished with a time of 21:24. Armstrong was a fraction faster and won the day's event.
