Shimano's Deore crankset is a top-value choice with excellent shifting and durability. It uses cost-saving cold forged arms rather than the Hollowtech II arms of SLX and upwards, but they still feel stiff and sturdy, and can take a hammering.
They do add 73g over SLX though. The shaped and pinned chainrings are the same, so shifting performance is smooth even when climbing hard. The lower grade BB is comparable with what you get on top cranks from most other brands too. Like other Shimano cranks, there’s no BB30 or official single-ring option, and the black version scuffs up quickly.
