For the first time, The Cycle Show will be showcasing live frame-building, courtesy of Prestige Cycles and The Bicycle Academy.

Visitors to the show will be able get closer than ever to the art of custom bikes, from learning about the initial measuring and fitting stage, to seeing demonstrations of the welding techniques and tubing used in the build process.

Special offer: BikeRadar readers can save money on tickets to The Cycle Show, which takes place from 26 to 28 September, when buying in advance. Simply head to The Cycle Show website and enter the discount code ‘BRD’ to get an adult ticket for just £11.50.

Prestige and The Bicycle Academy will be building and fitting frames over the course of the show – something that would normally take six to 12 weeks.

Andrew Denham, head teacher of The Bicycle Academy, which offers frame-building courses in Frome, Somerset, said: “Frame building is an art, and has seen quite a resurgence in recent years, with many of the best bike builders in the world coming from the UK.

“I’m very pleased that The Bicycle Academy will be at The Cycle Show, demonstrating these skills to a wider audience than ever before.”

Past students and current tutors from The Bicycle Academy will be at the Cycle Show to meet visitors and take part in frame-building Q&A sessions.

Custom bike-fitters, Prestige Cycles, from Brighton, will be demonstrating their bike-fitting expertise on stage, as well as explaining the science they use to fit aerodynamic custom bikes, in partnership with the University of Southampton and its wind tunnel.

Stephen Roche, founder of Prestige Cycles, said: “Cyclists often dream of owning their own custom-build bike, but they don’t know where to start. We’ll explain to visitors each stage of the bike building process and offer advice on what might best suit their needs.”
