Team SmartStop capped off their exceptional year of racing with a double win at the Thompson Bucks County Classic.
Canadian Zach Bell cruised to victory in the road race on Saturday, while Shane Kline out-sprinted the field in Sunday’s criterium.
After a wet and cold start to the UCI America Tour race, Zach Bell raced away from a breakaway of six riders in the final 12 miles of the Bucks County Classic to solo to victory. After a slew of crashes and abandons throughout the race, Bell found himself with a very select group of riders.
Attacking the break on the last circuit not only gave way to a win for Bell, but also helped Jure Krocjan and Team SmartStop secure wins in the 2014 UCI America Tour rankings.
The weekend concluded with a criterium on Sunday. A race that has historically resulted in a winning breakaway, this year’s installment was plagued by crashes and strong commitment from SmartStop to keep things to a field sprint.
Despite going down halfway through the race, Shane Kline was able to ride back into the race with help from teammate, Adam Myerson, who led out Kline for SmartStop’s second win of the weekend.
