American Lauren Stephens (Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank) smashed the 12.8km time trial on stage 4 of the Tour de San Luis Femenino on Wednesday, winning over compatriot Katie Hall (UnitedHealthcare) by 42 seconds. Carla Alvarez (Xirayas de San Luis) was third.

With her victory, Stephens, who came into the stage in fourth place overall at 20 seconds from Cuba's Iraida Garcia, took over the race lead. She has 57 seconds on Aranza Villalon (Weber Shimano), and 1:07 on Ale Cipollini's Malgorzata Jasinska.
