Terpstra defends Tour of Qatar title

DOHA, Qatar (AFP) — Dutch rider Niki Terpstra (Etixx-Quick-Step) claimed his second straight Tour of Qatar title on Friday after the sixth and final stage that was won by Ireland’s Sam Bennett (Bora-Argon 18).

Terpstra, who also won Paris-Roubaix last year, finished 6 seconds ahead of Poland’s Maciej Bodnar (Tinkoff-Saxo). Norway’s Alexander Kristoff (Katusha), the winner of three stages, took third at 9 seconds back.

Bennett won a sprint finish on Friday ahead of Italy’s Andrea Guardini (Astana) and France’s Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr) after the 113.5-kilometer ride from Sealine Beach to Doha.
