Specialized Command Post IR

It's another dropper primarily produced for fitting on the firm's own bikes, but Specialized’s Command Post IR is a standout option for 30.9mm seat tubed frames.

The Command Post family’s been around for a while and the previous external routed Black Lite version is lighter on your bike (and your wallet). The IR version can be used with a top routed cable or a base of post stealth-style setup as seen here. There are also two remote lever options. The standard lever here is compatible with left-hand shifters and can replace the inner grip clamp on some lock-on grips diameter. The one we like is the new SRL lever, which mimics the shape and throw of a SRAM shifter lever for a really neat sync with single ring systems that don’t need a left-hand gear shifter.

The latest posts are proving usefully tight and durable with no obvious flex. The neatly detailed Alien saddle clamp offers a small amount of layback and there are carbon rail compatible clamps available too. The smooth action gives semi drop and full drop positions and the same ‘far better in practice than it sounds in theory’ comments apply as they do to the Fox DOSS. Changing the air spring pressure controls the potentially savage return speed.

The valve cap over the top pull cable stop is a nice touch and it feels and performs like more expensive seatposts, making it a high value winner if it fits your frame.
