A little over a month after Evil announced its aggressive trail 29er, The Following, we’ve got our grubby mitts on one and have given it a good once over.
Big wheels, short travel and slack angles – that’s the recipe as The Following joins the ever expanding 29er trailbike segment of rides that refuse to take things too seriously.
The full carbon frame of The Following is happy to take either a 120mm or 130mm fork and offers 120mm of travel at the rear. Hugging the wide and curvaceous down tube is a linkage-activated single pivot arrangement. Essentially a scaled down and refined version of the system used on Evil’s other two full-sussers, it was devised by one of the biggest names in mountain bike suspension – Dave Weagle.
The Following also makes use of the DELTA system, comprising flippable components at the suspension linkage; it's quite unique in that it enables riders to independently adjust geometry figures without affecting the suspension leverage rate. The linkage houses two settings – high and low. The former makes for a head angle of 67.4 degrees, while the latter brings that figure down to 66.8 degrees (with a 130mm fork as shown). This change also lowers the 13.3in bottom bracket height by 0.3in and has a very slight impact on chainstay length and wheelbase figures, which extend by just 2mm and 1mm respectively.
The Following could change a few people's opinions on 29ers with its looks alone
