Cavendish seizes opening stage win at Dubai Tour

Mark Cavendish (Etixx-Quick-Step) dashed to victory in the opening stage of the Dubai Tour Tuesday.

Cavendish edged Andrea Guardini (Astana) and Elia Viviani (Sky) in a sprint finish of the 145-kilometer stage around the United Arab Emirates capital.

Cavendish now holds the overall lead entering Wednesday’s stage 2, a 187km route around the city.
