Scott 9ZR0 base layer review

http://ift.tt/eA8V8J

The Scott 9ZR0 is made from merino wool, which has an instant ‘ahhh’ factor when you pull it on. It’s a reassuring feel on the coldest days, but we’ve been wearing this for milder outings too and can confirm that it really does keep you cool as well as warm. Aren’t sheep clever? Actually no, otherwise they'd be able to stop us stealing their coats.

For most conditions we’ve worn this on its own under a waterproof or softshell, but for colder weather it keeps you happy and warm if you wear it under a jersey and jacket. We also liked wearing it under a short-sleeve jersey to take the edge off the chill of a winter morning ride.

What we especially like about the 9ZR0 is that, performance aside, it doesn’t look too much like underwear. The contrast seaming and textured knit mean you can get away with wearing it on its own.

The cut is more T-shirt than super-slim and sprayed-on too, and it’s neat across the shoulders where you need it to be but easier in the body.

It’s not the cheapest base layer out there, but it's as good to wear with jeans as on the bike, which for our money (and because wool doesn’t develop a nasty pong after a couple of hours) makes it the ideal top for a weekend away with your bike. Put it on Friday night for the drive and then simply layer as necessary – we promise you’ll still get a welcome-home hug come Sunday night…
