Brompton launches new Black Edition folding bikes

Brompton’s new Black Edition bikes will offer the exact same folding design that is beloved by legions of commuters, but with black components and finishing kit – giving Brompton riders the option of an all-black ride for the first time.

Given the predominance of black components on virtually every road-going bike on the market, it seems odd that British folding bike specialist has never specced anything but silver until now.

Brompton CEO, Will Butler-Adams OBE, says of the Black Edition: “I’m lucky that my job enables me to travel to many cities around the world, most recently Bangkok for the opening of our eighth Brompton Junction. One of my favourite things to do is to cycle through cities at night, the roads are often quieter and you see a different side to city life, lit up against the backdrop of the dark sky. City life at night was the inspiration behind the Black Edition, we were keen to try a sleek matt black Brompton mixed with pops of bright colour, as well as the full black effect.â€

The simple colour change instantly makes the bikes appear less retro, especially when added to the vibrant Berry Crush, Lime Green and Lagoon Blue frame colours. There are also black and white frames, with the Black Edition kit available on S, M and H Brompton types with two- and six-speed gear choices.

The Black Edition bikes are limited to a run of 5,000 and will be available from the end of March, with prices starting at £945 (RRPs will vary worldwide).

See the Brompton website for more information.
