Trek Domane Koppenberg frameset released

Back in April we profiled the race bike of Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Racing), who most thought was on a standard Domane Classics. We discovered after careful inspection that he was actually on something completely different, however, and Trek has now released these formerly team-only geometries as the new Domane Koppenberg.

The Domane Koppenberg is similar to the Domane Classics in that it features a much lower and more aggressive front end than the standard Domane. Whereas the Domane Classics uses a longer and more stable geometry derived from the inline Domane to better tackle the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix, though, the Domane Koppenberg is quicker, steeper, and more agile thanks to geometry borrowed entirely from Trek's latest Emonda range – which itself is a very close cousin to the long-running Madone.

In the end, what the Domane Koppenberg now offers is handling characteristics that are better suited to typical racing conditions but with the outstanding ride quality of the Domane's incredibly effective IsoSpeed seat tube 'decoupler'.

Trek will offer the Domane Koppenberg only as a frameset and solely in Trek Factory Racing livery in 56, 58, 60 and 62cm sizes – which, not surprisingly, are the same sizes used by the team riders. As further evidence that these are true team-issue machines, the framesets will be equipped with non-replaceable stainless steel rear derailleur hangers and the usual fender mounts are omitted entirely.

Trek says the Domane Koppenberg is currently available and retail price is US$4,199 / £2,595 for the frame, fork, headset, stem, seatmast head, chain keeper and bottom bracket.
