Pieters wins stage 2, assumes overall lead at Ladies Tour of Qatar

Amy Pieters won stage 2 of the Ladies Tour of Qatar Wednesday in Madinat Al Shamal. Pieters (Giant-Shimano) took the sprint out of a late breakaway in the 112-kilometer leg from Al Zubara.

Anna Van der Breggen (Rabo-liv) was second and Charlotte Becker (Wiggle-Honda) was third.

With the stage win, Pieters assumed the overall lead from Giant teammate Kirsten Wild, winner of Tuesday’s opening stage. Wild is now second, at seven seconds. Chloe Hosking (Hitec Products) is third, at 18 seconds.

The Ladies Tour of Qatar continues Thursday with the 93km third stage, from the Katara Cultural Village in Doha to Al Khor Corniche.
