British Cycling will hold a summer od junior cycle races to find future Froomeys, wannabe Wiggos and potential Pendletons.
To celebrate the Yorkshire Tour de France grand depart in July, British Cycling has launched the Go Ride Tour – a series of under-16 races for novices all over the country – where riders can compete for yellow, green and polka dot jerseys.
It's billed as the perfect opportunity for youngsters inspired by UK cycling stars such as Chris Froome, Victoria Pendleton, Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins to try out racing.
Events will take place under the direction of British Cycling-trained coaches in traffic-free venues such as racing circuits, playing fields and car parks, said the national governing body. Scheduled events will be added to its website over the next few months.
British Cycling’s director of coaching, education and development, John Mills, said: "We have a fantastic summer of cycling ahead of us and we want to provide an opportunity for young riders to emulate their cycling heroes and experience the thrill of racing.
"We look forward to welcoming lots of new riders to the Go-Ride Tour, which will undoubtedly be a highlight of the year for the Go-Ride programme. These racing events are developing the next generation of bike racers, so you never know, we might also find another Laura Trott or Chris Froome!"
There are currently 300 registered Go Ride clubs around the UK, encouraging youngsters to enjoy the competitive side of cycling.
