Ryan Trebon (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) and Katerina Nash (Luna) won the elite men’s and women’s races, respectively, at the Darkhorse CycloStampede Friday, on day one of the three-day Toyota Cincy3 festival in Covington, Kentucky.
According to organizers, U.S. champion Katie Compton (Trek Cyclocross Collective) suffered an asthma attack midway through the women’s event, which she has won in the past, and was forced to withdraw. Compton won round 2 of the World Cup in Tabor, Czech Republic last Saturday.
Meredith Miller (Cal Giant-Specialized) was second to Nash, at 1:46, edging Kaitlin Antonneau (Cannondale) by four seconds.
In the men’s race, Trebon put his mountain bike skills and power to good use, topping teammate Tim Johnson and Jamey Driscoll (Raleigh-Clement) on the tough Devou Park course. Ben Berden (Raleigh) was fourth and U.S. under-23 champion Yannick Eckmann (Cal Giant) was fifth.
The Cincy3 festival continues Saturday with the Lionheart International at Kingswood Park in Deerfield Township, Ohio.
