Quick-Step Floors' Colombian sprinter Fernando Gaviria took the opening stage of the Tour de France 2018 in Fontenay-le-Comte on Saturday, out-sprinting Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Marcel Kittel (Katusha-Alpecin) to second and third place, respectively.
Gaviria raced the first stage of the Tour aboard the new S-Works Venge, launched earlier this week by Specialized as the third iteration of the American brand's aero-specific frameset.
Specialized have focused on three new designs that define the new model – the Specialized Venge VIAS – including lower weight, more aerodynamics and better handling, dubbed "rider-first engineered".
Unlike the consumer versions of the new Venge, the two UCI WorldTour that are both sponsored by Specialized and ride their bikes – Quick-Step Floors and Bora-Hansgrohe – have white S-Works decals on the down tube and Specialized decals on the fork, which Specialized openly admit are there to give the brand maximum exposure during a race.
