Schwalbe’s Magic Mary may look like a cut-down mud tyre but it’s deceptively versatile in a wide range of conditions. It’s already proven its worth on the race circuit, where its grippy tread, tacky VertStar compound and tough Super Gravity casing have helped secure a slew of DH and enduro victories.
Our test sample weighed in at 1,120g and blew up tubeless easily with a track pump. Throughout a full year of testing, the carcass has shrugged off everything we’ve thrown at it, staving off tears and not once letting us down. And the square centre tread blocks and aggressive side knobs really let you push the tyre hard, especially in softer conditions, where it sheds mud well thanks to the wide tread spacing.
On flatter trails, the soft compound rubber isn’t the fastest rolling, but the huge amount of grip on offer gives the tyre a confidence inspiring feel on pretty much everything, including wet roots and rocks. A year on, our test tyre is now reluctant to stay inflated tubeless though.
