Defending Redlands Bicycle Classic champion Alison Powers made her intentions known Thursday when she blazed to a stage 2 win in Big Bear Lake, California. Powers (UnitedHealthcare) logged a time of 16:22 in the mostly-flat, 7.8-mile individual time trial.
Leah Kirchmann (Optum-Kelly Benefit Strategies) was second, at 35 seconds, and Tayler Wiles (Specialized-lululemon) was third, at 41 seconds.
Powers’ ride landed her the overall lead, which she holds by 34 seconds over Kirchmann. Overnight leader Lauren Stephens (Tibco-To the Top) fell to fourth overall, at 42 seconds. Wiles is third, 41 seconds adrift.
The men’s stage is underway.
The 30th Redlands Classic continues Friday with the Beaumont Circuit Race. The women and men will race 72 and 120 miles, respectively.
