Tygart, UCI panel discuss naming more names — The Independent
U.S. Anti-Doping Agency CEO Travis Tygart is reportedly in discussions with a UCI panel to reveal the names of other riders and staff members implicated in the Lance Armstrong doping case who have thus far remained anonymous.
According to The Independent, Tygart has been in contact with the Cycling Independent Reform Commission — a three-person panel looking into the sport’s doping past — about sharing information related to USADA’s investigation into Armstrong. One key piece of information being discussed are the identities of riders and staff who were left out of the agency’s report.
Tygart said the sport needs to come face-to-face with its history of doping and make it known which riders cheated by taking performance-enhancing drugs. That, he alluded to, will lead to a cleaner sport moving forward.
“Just because you change the top the dirty system doesn’t necessarily change,” Tygart said in The Independent story. “When you’ve doped in the past with success, particularly as a doctor, team owner, coach, director and you’ve never been exposed, the likelihood that you are going to continue that practice of doping and not getting caught is huge.
“We all want to turn the page. But the job is not done. Time is of the essence.”
