The Altura Raceline LS jersey and Progel bib tights lack built-in wind- or water-resistance, but they still make a competent clothing set for milder winter days. They offer good value too.
Raceline LS jersey
£74.99 / €97.50
The Raceline from Altura isn't groundbreaking, but it's a competent winter garment that represents decent value for money. Roubaix fleece-lined fabric is a good touch, as are the three good-sized rear pockets, which are essential for the sundry spares that are required when riding in all weathers.
There's subtle reflective detailing on the lower back and on one arm, which is is a welcome addition, and we appreciated the tight cuffs and the sticky rubber grippers around the waist, which combine to help seal you off from the elements.
However, the downside the Altura lacks any built-in resistance to wind and rain, so it needs to be matched to appropriate under and over-layers according to the severity of the weather.
The fit of the jersey isn't ultra-aggressive, with a tail that's only slightly dropped, but its fabric is extremely stretchy, so a decently racy fit is achievable with judicious sizing choices.
Progel bib tights
£69.99 / €84.50
The first thing we noticed when putting the Progel bibs on is the fit and comfort. The inside has a fleece Roubaix fabric that’s very comfortable and warm, and we really like the Progel pad too – it’s easily one of the most comfortable pads we’ve tested this year.
The Altura jersey and bibs offer enough warmth for all but the coldest days, but you'll need additional layers if it's rainy or windy
There’s no wind protection, which will be a problem on really cold days, but the legs are thick enough to offer a decent amount of protection from low temperatures.
The ankle cuffs are simply elasticated and stay in place very well, while the bibs come high up the back before splitting into simple straps. They might not look like the snazziest tights around, but for the money, they’re spot on.
- Jersey score: 4 stars
- Bibs score: 4 stars
- Overall score: 4 stars
