GoPro HERO4 vs Contour ROAM3 vs Garmin VIRB

http://ift.tt/1Ew9L9L

Action cameras are an awesome way to immortalise your antics out on the trails so we've rounded up three of the latest and greatest – the GoPro HERO4 Silver, Contour ROAM3 and Garmin VIRB – and tested them head to head. Literally – by sticking all three on our poor tester Jake Ireland's head at the same time.

We filmed in as many conditions as the day would permit – in dappled light, direct sunlight and in the shadows, and on rough ground as well as smooth trails. The cameras all did well, regardless of price, but quality and crispness did vary and there was a clear winner. Hit play below to watch some of the footage, then check out the latest issue of Mountain Biking UK magazine (#317, July) – sister title to BikeRadar – for more on all three cameras.

It's not just camera buying advice that we've got in the latest mag – we've also got loads of tips to help you get the most from your filming. Nothing beats putting up your weekend’s riding accomplishments for the world to marvel over on YouTube or Instagram, but no one wants to watch videos of the sky or your handlebar joggling around, so we've got advice on everything from mounting positions to camera settings, plus some basic editing pointers.
