Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) took her second consecutive victory of the weekend at the KMC Cyclo-cross Festival in Providence on Sunday. The Czech rider opened a gap in the closing laps to take the victory, again, ahead of US champion Katie Compton (Trek Factory Racing), while Caroline Mani (Raleigh Clement) finished a strong third place.
The second round of the KMC Cyclo-cross Festival offered the women a C2-level event, and although less points were on the line the event was just as thrilling as the previous day's C1 race that Nash won.
Nash, again built a solo lead on her chasers during the closing laps of the race. Her strongest rival, Compton, pushed on the pedals to try and close a 10-second gap during the last lap but was unsuccessful and had to settle for another second place. Mani, who finished fourth the previous day, had a marked improvement by finishing on the podium in third.
The chase group behind the three leaders included Amanda Miller (Boulder Cycle Sport), who finished on the podium in the C1 event, but fell one spot behind on Sunday. She was followed by silver medallist at the World Championships in the junior road race Emma White (Cyclocrossworld Devo), Meredith Miller (Noosa Pro Cyclocross), Courtenay McFadden (American Classic/Zones), Amanda Nauman (SDG-Muscle Monster) and Kaitlin Antonneau (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com).
