Trek recalls some Bontrager Flare RT and Ion 700 RT lights

Trek in conjunction with the CSPC has issued a voluntary recall of some Bontrager Flare RT rear lights (sold individually) and Bontrager Ion 700 RT front lights (sold as part of the Bontrager Transmitr Lighting set with remote).

According to the recall notice, a number of these lights were made with incorrect components and the affected units may not pair with a controlling device or may turn of unexpected, possibly reducing the visibility of a rider or making it hard to see the roadway ahead.

The recall applies to lights in sold between July 2016 and October 2016 in the US, Canada, Japan, UK and Australia. Flare RT owners should check the back of the light for a date code between Af0400001 and Af0400407. The affected Ion 700 RT lights will have a date code of 1606 which is located below the charging port cover on the bottom of the light.

The CSPC say Trek has received seven reports of the lights functioning intermittently with paired with a remote transmitter but none have resulted in injuries.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the affected lights and, and Trek will providing a free replacement, and covering any return shipping costs. To incentivize replacement of the recalled lights, Trek is also offering a $20 coupon good toward any Trek or Bontrager product.
