Five years on from his first title, José Joaquín Rojas was crowned Spanish national road race champion for a second time on Saturday as he soloed to victory on a hot day in Alicante.
The 31-year-old was part of a group that bridged over to the original breakaway in the latter half of the 198.3km course - held over an undulating 32km circuit - and he made a solo bid for victory in the closing kilometres. Katusha's Angel Vicioso was second, crossing the line with Jordi Simon (Verva ActiveJet) seven seconds later, with the peloton a further five seconds back.
Rojas' win means that the Spanish national champion's jersey has gone to a Movistar rider for a seventh straight year.
