Tour of California motorcycle support member dies during stage 4

One of the support team for the Amgen Tour of California died after losing consciousness during stage 4 at a remote mountain sprint on the Pacific Coast Highway.

Cyclingnews witnessed medical attention being given to one of the several motorcyclists who accompany the race at the first KOM, 72km into the 215km stage from Morro Bay to Laguna Seca Raceway.

KSBW reported that the person began to choke, and subsequently passed out and crashed his motorcycle at 11:40 am local time. The man, who is yet to be named, died at the scene.

The news website Kionrightnow.com said that the man had been carrying a photographer on the back of his motorcycle at the time but that he survived the crash. 

Despite the incident, the race continued and Peter Sagan (Tinkoff) went on to win his second stage, beating Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) in the sprint at Laguna Seca.
