Pearl Izumi's new top-of-the-range P.R.O. Leader II shoes feature a unique seamless upper that’s just 0.9mm thick, and are priced at £229.99 / $US270.
The upper takes its inspiration from running spikes. It's designed to conform around your foot shape and reduce the chances of friction or hotspots.
The sole is Pearl's Octane 1:1 unidirectional carbon unit, and is both stiff and light. The stack height is a minimal 6.5mm. The sole features a moulded-in toe-piece and heel bumper, and two large meshed vents forward of the cleat plate.
Closure is taken care by one central mounted BOA and a toe-box velcro strap.
Pearl claims a size 43 shoe weighs 245g; we weighed our size 45 test pair and recorded a weight of 265g (each) which is impressively light.
The P.R.O. Leader II shoes are available in sizes 38 to 49, with half sizes up to size 47.
