Greipel wins stage 1 of 2014 Tour of Oman

MASCAT (AFP) — André Greipel won stage 1 of the Tour of Oman Tuesday in Naseem Garden. Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) was fastest in the sprint to close the 164-kilometer opening leg of the six-day tour, which started at Al Suwayq Castle.

Leigh Howard (Orica-GreenEdge) was second and Nicola Ruffoni (Bardiani-CSF) was third.

Greipel leads the overall ahead of Wednesday’s 139km second stage, from Al Bustan to Qurayyat.
