Editor’s Note:  Atlanta faced a major ice storm Wednesday that threatened widespread power outages. I hustled to get the Newsletter completed on Tuesday, just in case power goes out at RBR HQ. So, if you try to contact me Thursday or Friday, I may be foraging for firewood, and out of pocket temporarily! – John

Guest Column: Why Intervals Benefit Every Type of Rider

By Coach Peter Wimberg

Whether you ride simply for the fun of it and to maintain your health and fitness, or you’re a more “serious” rider who regularly races or does goal events or tours, including intervals in your riding is important. And making the most of those intervals will help you get the most out of whatever type of riding you do.

"Although I've been a long-time reader of the newsletter, I only recently became a Premium Member.

"I just want you to know that after my recent exchange with Jim Langley, I'm now sold on its value. Jim provided prompt, friendly answers to my questions about chain skipping and I'll try out his suggestions this weekend.

"Far better and much more personal than trying to sort out the wheat from the chaff and craft the right Internet search to get a valid answer." -- Russ Wood

39 Years Old and Still Lighting the Road

Retro road bikes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but the one that’s been monopolizing every spare moment of my time is such a unique bike and has such an ingenious lighting system, I want to tell you about that. It’s winter in North America -- when lights are important -- and what’s on this classic touring bicycle is still available today, though not really a stock item.

Trivia:  To come clean, I have spent so much money and time recently trying to move this project along it’s become a wonderful obsession, making it difficult to think about anything else. Hence, it being the subject of my column this week.
